Discussion Forum Frequently Asked Questions |
| This is a place to share ideas, seek
solutions and exchange views on issues of interest to information you may be seeking.
All you have to do is "look in" on a conversation "thread" that
is already going on and post your comments and questions on to that conversation's
thread. Then click back frequently for further responses. If you want to ask a
question or start a conversation "thread" of your own, all you have to do is
post a message. You can also Search the Forum, using the Search Feature.
When searching the search feature will check for words in all three areas of the
forum: i.e. Subject, Category or Comments. This is very useful as you could,
(for example) search a user name and find ALL postings by that user. |
FAQ's on Using Your Discussion Forums
|
Each Discussion Forum is made up of conversation Threads. Each
Conversation Thread is made up of messages and responses.
When you look at the front page of a Discussion Forum you'll see a list of Conversation
Threads or topics that are currently being discussed.
Below the Conversation title, you'll see all the messages in that conversation thread, the
name of the person posting the message, the date and time it was posted, and a
number of responses will be indented below the original posting.
HOW DO I START A CONVERSATION?
You start a Conversation by hitting the "Post a New Article" Link. When
you create a Conversation you give it a title. Conversation are sorted by date
(newest first).
Try to start your title with a word that would make it easy to find in a list. Also,
questions often make the best titles.
HOW DO I READ A CONVERSATION?
Just click on any message in the Conversation. You'll be taken to that message, and
below it you see all the responses to it.
HOW DO I REPLY?
You reply to a message by using the "Reply" Link on the page that is displaying
the posting that you wish to reply to.
The subject line will already be filled in with the title of the conversation you are
joining.
If you post doesn't show up on you own computer, it's probably because you have to reload
or refresh you browser for it to appear.
A NOTE ON E-MAIL ETIQUETTE
Please observe "netiquette." Write your messages carefully and constantly
remind yourself that verbal inflections are absent in E-Mail messages or forum postings.
Thus, for example, you readers won't hear any sarcasm or a soothing tone you hear
when you write your messages and comments. Always look for a worst possible tonal
inflection of your phrasing. And please don't write in all Capital Letters.
That's considered SHOUTING. Remember Capital Letters for emphasis.
